Does our family of 4 need to make a reservation for horse back riding at Disney Fort Wilderness? Or do u thing we could just show up and do it? Also, wanted to do archery how long would it take to get from one to the other?

As they might say at Disney Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, "Howdy Sharon!"
I'm a total vacation planner, so my recommendation (and to avoid any disappointment) would definitely be to secure a reservation for Horseback Trail Rides at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch rather than just taking pot-luck with your family.  Reservations can easily be made by speaking with a Cast Member on the telephone number contained within my previous link.
Your dear family are sure to aim for a super fun time at the Fort Wilderness Archery Experience which is located at The Bike Barn in the Meadow Trading Post area which is only a short ride on an internal Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort bus from the Tri-Circle-D Ranch.  I guess I would allow at the very least 1/2 an hours transportation time between activities if not more... to allow yourselves time to relax and look around the beautiful surroundings of this rustic and most peaceful of Resorts.
    Have a great Disney day.
