Ahoy, Joshua!
Welcome aboard planDisney! I’m thrilled to hear you’re charting a course for adventure
aboard the Destiny—what an exciting voyage to plan! Making sure your crew’s travel documents are in order before setting sail is one of the smartest ways to keep your journey as smooth as Goofy’s dance moves at the Sail-Away Party.
Assuming everyone in your travel party is a US citizen, here’s the scoop: since you’ll be
sailing round trip from Fort Lauderdale on what’s known as a closed-loop cruise (departing from and returning to the same US port), you won’t technically need a passport. Instead, each Guest can present either an original, valid US passport, passport card, or Trusted Traveler Card, or an original state-issued birth certificate (no photocopies) and a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license. Guests 15 years old or younger will only need the original birth certificate, no photo ID required.
Now, while a passport may not be required, I always encourage Guests to consider bringing one if possible. Think of it as your “magic key” to the world—it not only
makes international travel easier but can be a lifesaver in the rare event you need to disembark early and fly home from a non-US port. Trust me, it’s far easier to handle unexpected detours when you already have that official blue booklet in hand! Plus, if you’re anything like me, one Disney cruise tends to lead to another, and before you know it, you might be booking a Mediterranean or Northern European itinerary where a passport will likely be required.
I hope this helps you feel confident and
ready to set sail on your magical journey aboard the Destiny. You’re well on your way to making memories that’ll last longer than the Dole Whip line on embarkation day!
Sea ya real soon with boo-tiful nights and frightfully fun days,
Dustin
