My family of 3 - myself, my husband, and my (almost) 4 year old daughter have done just about all the attractions/shows there is to do at the parks. Looking for some Disney magic outside of the typical attractions - cool hotels, The Boardwalk? Suggestions?

Hi there Samantha, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

As a fellow Floridian, I'm with you on finding new things to try around Walt Disney World. Fortunately, there are lots of fun (and free!) things to do outside the parks. Here are some of my family's faves.

    • The "monorail loop" - Disney's "highway in the sky" helps you explore the fabulous resort hotels on the monorail line. It's fun, and it's free (not counting any treats or souvenirs that call your name, of course).
    • Rent a boat - At the Magic Kingdom area and Epcot area resort hotels, you can rent a watercraft and tool around the waters of Walt Disney World.
    • Visit the Wilderness - Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has tons of activities, including pony rides for the little ones.
    • Downtown Disney/Disney Springs - Check out the progress on Downtown Disney's transformation to Disney Springs, with new shops and dining spots already open and more on the way. Be warned, though, once your little one steps foot in the Lego Store, you may not be able to get her out!
    • Mini-golf - Winter Summerland and Fantasia Gardens mini-golf courses make for a fun non-park afternoon at Walt Disney World.
    • Character dining - If you haven't dined with your favorite Disney characters yet, it's something to try.

I hope these ideas help kick-start your new adventures at Walt Disney World, Samantha. Stop back by if you have any more questions. We love to help!

    Have a magical day,

    Kathy K.

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
