Can a family of 5 (Mom, Dad, 9yo twins, 6yo) really fit into a room at Port Orleans Riverside? We really don't spend much time in the room.

My family of six (children ages 13, 10, 8 and 17 months) stayed at Port Orleans Riverside in September.  Because we required a portable crib for the baby, quarters were somewhat cramped as the crib took up a lot of space and there wasn't really a convenient place to put it.  However, we didn't spend time in our room other than to sleep, so it worked out fine for us.

Keep in mind that the trundle (available in the Alligator Bayou section only) is not the same size as a standard bed.  I would recommend that your youngest child sleep there.  When the trundle is not in use you can slide it underneath the bed to maximize all available space.

Another nice feature is that the rooms have a curtain you can pull to partition the vanity/bathroom area from the rest of the room.  I found it useful that while one person was showering, someone else could be using the vanity area for getting dressed in private while the rest of the family ate cereal or watched TV in the main room area.

You have to go into it with the understanding that you'll all be sharing a cozy space for a few days.  If your family spends as little time in the room as mine, you should be plenty comfortable at Port Orleans Riverside.  Enjoy your trip!

I'm Darcie, and my friends would be the first to tell you that Disney trip planning (especially dining!) is my love language. Of course, the vacations my family enjoys today look much different than they did when our kids were little, but while some of our favorite activities have evolved, Disney destinations still top our travel wish lists.
