Hi Amanda,
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thank you for your question. Above all, please accept my condolences for your family’s loss, and thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Amanda, the
military discounts offered at Walt Disney World are much appreciated, but eligibility certainly can get confusing. In my experience, the best place to get the correct answers to your questions is through Shades of Green. I called their Ticket Office, and they told me that if you are the widow, widower or child dependent of a fallen service member and you have a current military-issued ID card, you should be eligible to stay at Shades of Green and to purchase discounted tickets. Because they don’t know your exact circumstances, they were not able to provide specific discount information. Please give their wonderful staff a call at (407) 824-1403 so you can get the most up-to-date and accurate answer. Once you know what tickets you are eligible for, you can order them through Shades of Green or visit your local base.
When at Walt Disney World, my family almost always stops at Shades of Green, not only because the ticket office is a great resource, but also because their gift shop is an AAFES Exchange. You can purchase your Disney souvenirs, including unique military-themed shirts and plush toys, along with other items like sunscreen and snacks, and your purchase is tax-free with your military ID. There is also a great counter-service location in the lobby that serves Starbucks beverages.
I hope this is helpful and that you’re able to get a great answer to your question. Please come back and visit us as you plan your vacation – we will be delighted to help you plan a magical visit.
