We have 2 family members with celiac and will be eating gluten free on our trip in January. Will Tusker House prepare a plate in the back to avoid cross contamination? Do you recommend some other restaurants that offer gluten free meals?

Hey there, hi there, ho there, Heather! You're as welcome as can be here at planDisney. I’m so glad to hear that your family will be visiting in January. What a wonderful time of year to experience all the magic of Walt Disney World Resort! As someone who truly values Disney’s commitment to accommodating dietary needs, I’m happy to share that you can absolutely relax knowing your family members will be well cared for throughout your trip.

Walt Disney World Resort takes food allergies very seriously, and that includes celiac disease and gluten sensitivities. At most dining locations, including Tusker House at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, you’ll find that chefs and Cast Members go above and beyond to ensure safe and delicious meals for every Guest. When you arrive for your reservation, simply let your server know about your family’s dietary restrictions. A chef or a specially trained Cast Member will come to your table to discuss your options in detail and explain how they can safely prepare your food. In many cases, this includes preparing meals in the back kitchen separately from other dishes to avoid cross-contamination whenever possible.

You’ll also find that most table-service and many quick-service restaurants across the resort have allergy-friendly menus that clearly list gluten-free options. It’s always best to note your family’s allergies when making your dining reservations in the My Disney Experience app or website. You can do this right on the reservation landing page. You can also contact the Special Diets team ahead of time by email if you’d like to share more details before your visit.

Some other restaurants known for their gluten-free accommodations include Satu’li Canteen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom (a great quick-service option), Coral Reef Restaurant at EPCOT, and Liberty Tree Tavern at Magic Kingdom. But truly, wherever you dine, you’ll find Cast Members eager to help you create a safe and enjoyable meal.

Heather, rest assured that Walt Disney World is one of the best destinations in the world for Guests with food allergies. You’ll always have options, and they’ll always come sprinkled with that extra touch of Disney magic! If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. We're always available and more than happy to help here at planDisney. Have a magical week!

    Warm hugs,
