Hi! My family is meeting another family for a stay at Polynesian — but my family is arriving the day before check-iin, hoping to sneak an extra day at Disney. Should we just book a night at a different resort and a one day park ticket for that day? Thanks!

    Hi, there!

Welcome to planDisney, Steve. I'm so happy you stopped by and even happier to hear you're planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation! It's the very best kind, if you ask me.

You're going to love being transported to the South Pacific as a Guest of Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. My family has an upcoming stay at this unique Disney Resort hotel, and we're counting down the days with excitement!

I'm always a fan of sneaking in an extra Disney day, so you've come to the right place for advice. It's possible that you could add an extra night to your existing reservation, but I recommend taking this opportunity to experience the unique theming of another Disney Resort hotel. My extended family of 14 vacationed together a few years ago, but my immediate family decided to go ahead of everyone by just one day. Rather than adding a night to our reservation at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, we booked a single night at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was a wild adventure! There's so much to do there that we didn't bother trying to visit the theme parks until we met up with the rest of our family the next day. We explored the beautiful hotel, took part in the many cultural activities available, ate incredible food, and even participated in night vision viewing of the savanna. That one extra night certainly added some extra magic to our Disney vacation!

As for your tickets, I don't recommend purchasing a one-day park ticket. Rather, the more cost-efficient option is to add an extra day to your existing tickets. You can make this modification online or on the My Disney Experience mobile app. To add the extra day to your existing tickets online, select 'My Plans' from the My Disney Experience tab on the Walt Disney World Resort website. Scroll down your planning page and click on 'Tickets, Passes & Memory Maker.' Click on the blue 'Change Ticket' link listed under a ticket and follow the prompts to add a day. You'll see substantial savings in adding a day to your existing tickets instead of purchasing a new ticket! To make that modification on the My Disney Experience mobile app, tap on the three little horizontal lines in the bottom right corner of the screen and then tap on 'My Tickets & Passes.' Tap 'Change Ticket' under someone's ticket and again, follow the prompts to add that extra day. And, of course, you can always call the Existing Tickets line for assistance from a friendly Cast Member

If you really want to save some Disney dollars, though, you may want to consider exploring your Disney Resort hotel like we did, and maybe even visiting Disney Springs instead of the theme parks! Too, keep in mind that complimentary admission to a water park on your check-in date is now a perk for Guests of the Disney Resorts Collection in 2025. It's a spash-tastic (and free!) way to spend an extra day at Disney!

I hope this was helpful, Steve. Please let us know if you have any other questions about your Walt Disney World Resort vacation! We'd love to help you plan a magical stay.
