My family of 4 (kids age 10 & 12 at time of travel) are booked for POFQ for a 9 night stay in summer 2014. I can upgrade to AKL for about $500 but I'm not sure if its worth it? We typically don't spend a lot of time at the hotel.

    Hi Robyn,

We appreciate you stopping by to get our opinions and tips. Even thought your trip is about a year away, it will be here before you can say "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"!

Port Orleans French Quarter holds a very special place in my heart and is a fun and vibrant resort. However, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is absolutely amazing. I do not thing you will be disappointed! We stayed there when we took our oldest for his first trip and were in awe of all the special touches. The lobby is a jaw dropper and if you are able to get a savanna view room for that upgraded price, then it is absolutely worth it. Even if you don't spend a lot of time in the room, just being able to see the animals outside your room at different times of day is a perk you won't get anywhere else.

Another great aspect of this resort is the wonderful dining options. Both Boma and Jiko-The Cooking Place are two of my top 10 restaurants. The eclectic options (as well as more traditional offerings for picky eaters) have always been a draw to these restaurants.

Again, these are my opinions and you should always consider your family and budget when making such an important decision. If you decide not to upgrade, Port Orleans French Quarter is still lots of fun. Be sure to try the classic New Orleans beignets one morning, too!

    Have a magical trip!
