My family, (Me, Husband and two boys under 6) are planning to visit Disney World and was wondering if it is worth extra hard earned money to stay at deluxe resort (ie polynesian resort) or choose a value hotel instead?

Hello Janet!  I have stayed at all levels of accommodations at Disney - with the bulk of my vacations either being at the value or deluxe levels due to the size of my family (2 rooms at value or 1 room at deluxe).  One thing I can tell you is you will have a blast no matter where you stay.  We have just as many family memories at the value resorts as we do at the deluxe and in many ways, our children seemed to enjoy the values more when they were younger - probably due to the large icons and the food courts.

With the economy the way it is, I would recommend going with what you can comfortable afford.  Once you are at the parks, I can guarantee you they are the same for everyone, regardless where you end up staying.

Since you seem to be a budget minded person, I can also share with you that I've never paid full price for a Disney vacation.  I only vacation when there are discounts available - which is why I can afford the deluxe accommodations at times.  My favorite websites to keep an eye on discounts is mousesavers.com the 'special offers' link on disneyworld.com (upper right corner of almost any web page on their website).  And for great budget ideas, the disboards has an entire forum dedicated to budgeting.

All that being said, if you are comfortable booking a deluxe resort...and you specifically mentioned the Polynesian, I think you will love it.  The convenience of taking the monorail to Magic Kingdom and Epcot is a real luxury for our family.

I hope this helps.  Please let us know if you have follow up questions. Diane  :)
