Hi , my family and I (husband, sons 10, 12, 14 and my mom) are coming into disney Aug.16, 11. I was wondering if the dining plan would be good for us or should we do some grocery shopping and maybe a few dinners out. What would be more cost affective.

Hi Melissa!  Sounds like an exciting crew you are bringing with you to Walt Disney World!  And, knowing how my own nephews and sons are, I bet they'll be a hungry bunch as well!

You didn't mention how long you are staying, how many days you'll be visiting the parks, or whether or not you are staying in a resort with a kitchen or microwave/fridge available, such as the Disney Vacation Club Villas.  These are all important factors for us in making the decision to use the Disney Dining Plan or not.

We have used the Disney Dining Plans and, having a husband who is also a C.P.A., he has analyzed it every which way he can.  What we have discovered is that the Disney Dining Plan is a great value, especially if you have a hungry bunch, and plan to enjoy a Table Service meal every day.

And, if you are going to be hitting the parks nearly every day of your vacation, you may find that you don't want the distraction of having the worries of shopping, cooking & cleaning.  Those things take time, money, and energy - and it's much more fun to spend all those things in the Disney Parks!   It's a vacation - so let someone else take care of the work for you - and Disney does a wonderful job of it!

For our group, which includes some folks who enjoy eating, we have found that the Disney Dining Plan which offers 1 Quick-Service Meal, 1 Snack, and 1 Table-Service Meal per guest per night of package stay, is more than enough food to get us through.  We do keep some snacks, such as extra snacks, breakfast bars, and juice boxes in our room, but the plan has been a great way for us to enjoy some amazing dining experiences in Walt Disney World at an incredible value!

I wish you a wonderful & tasty trip!
