Hi Amy,
Thank you for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel for assistance planning your Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
As a fellow mom of five, I completely understand the challenge of trying to make everyone happy when the bigger kids want to ride and the babes are simply too little.
Rider Switch is a wonderful feature which allows each parent the opportunity to enjoy an attraction with the older kids, while taking turns waiting with the little ones. I believe you are inquiring as to how, specifically, Rider Switch works and if it needs to be used right after the first parent rides. Essentially, the answer is yes, you need to ride one right after the other. One parent waits in a designated area while the other one rides and then you switch. If you need to nurse a baby, or run little ones to the potty, an exception can certainly be made if you inform the Cast Member. However, you are going to want to plan on getting into the queue when your party is ready to complete Rider Switch for any given attraction. If you click on the link which I provided, you will see more specifics on exactly how the Rider Switch works.
I hope this helps and that you have a fantastic vacation with your family!
Wishing you magical memories,
Kaylene
