Hello, Amy! Welcome to planDisney! My family just returned from a visit earlier this month to the
Walt Disney World Resort and stayed at
Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows in a Deluxe Studio, so I am happy to share some information on the resort and our experience to help you plan your upcoming visit.
The biggest difference between a Deluxe Studio and a Resort Studio at
Disney Resort Collection hotels, in my opinion, is the kitchenette with a microwave, small refrigerator, and sink found in a Deluxe Studio. My family likes to take advantage of the extra amenities in Deluxe Studios by ordering basic food items and snacks through one of the delivery services so we can make quick and healthy breakfasts to go on our way to rope drop at our favorite park. A Resort Studio will have a beverage cooler, but it is on the smaller side and intended only for drinks.
Another major difference between the two categories is the bathroom layout. A Deluxe Studio will split one bathroom into two distinct areas, one with a shower and vanity with sink, and another with a traditional tub/shower combo, vanity with sink, and toilet. A Resort Studio will have a more traditional bathroom layout. We find the split bathroom to be great when multiple people are trying to get ready at the same time.
Something else to consider would be your bed preference. A Deluxe Studio will have one Queen Bed, one Queen Pull Down Bed, and one Single Pull Down Bed (located under the TV) whereas the Resort Studio will have either one King Bed and one Day Bed or two Queen Beds. When staying in the Deluxe Studio, the extra space created when putting the Queen Pull Down Bed and Single Pull Down Bed away makes the downtime spent between resort hopping a little more spacious and enjoyable.
As for theming, the Resort Studios have recently been updated to include Moana touches and accents whereas the Deluxe Studios have a more traditional tropical ambiance and vibe, with little hints of theming.
I spoke with a helpful Cast Member who confirmed Deluxe Studios will be in the Tokelau, Moorea, and Pago Pago buildings. Although the Polynesian may feel large and spread out with multiple buildings located on the property, I think you will find that regardless of your location, everything is a relatively short, beautiful, and pleasant walk to the Great Ceremonial House which is where you will find access to the monorail, the front desk, and amazing dining options like Capt. Cook’s, Kona Café, and ‘Ohana.
Regardless of your room type, Amy, I know you will enjoy your upcoming stay at
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Be sure to swing by
Pineapple Lanai to enjoy a frozen DOLE WHIP, you won’t regret it!
Aloha,
Brent
