We have family in Florida- 2 adults and a 3-year old boy, and we were wondering a good place for us to meet up if they can't commit to a park for a whole day. We have a 13 month old daughter as well. I was hoping the pool but I read that's not possible.

Hello Mandy! As a Florida native currently living in Indiana, I've run into this scenario a couple of times. I will usually plan a Walt Disney World vacation and a family meet-up at the same time, but it can get a little difficult trying to fit everyone's needs and interests. Typically my family opts out of a park visit, so I can tell you a couple of things that we have done.

Last August we spent the day in Disney's Animal Kingdom. Right before park closing we met up with my family for dinner at The Rainforest Cafe. You do not need park admission to dine at this restaurant, so it was very easy to meet up and enjoy a meal together with family that we don't get to see very often. If this is something that you are interested in doing, I suggest getting a head count and making the reservations in advance.

Another great place to meet up is Downtown Disney. No park admission is required and there are so many fun things to do together as a family. There are over 40 shops as well as some amazing restaurants that you can check out. You can find live music, stage shows like La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil, and even DisneyQuest which is a 5-floor indoor interactive theme-park. If your family enjoys friendly competition, Splitsville Luxury Lanes is a retro bowling alley with lanes on two floors. After a long day of family fun, I highly suggest stopping by Goofy's Candy Company for a sweet treat. The chocolate-covered pineapple is my favorite!

You can also meet up at any of the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels for dinner, including California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort. This way, if you plan your meal just right, you can all enjoy the Magic Kingdom fireworks show without even stepping into the park. The lights are dimmed and the music is piped right in so that you can enjoy your meal while watching the show.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, please feel free to stop by. Have a magical day!

I am a recent graduate from Ball State University and mother to my 5-year-old son. We love all things Disney and when we aren’t watching Disney films or planning our next vacation, we love to go to touring Disney shows. I also love to cook, listen to music, read books, and paint. With my experience planning vacations and navigating the parks from a single parent’s perspective, I hope to be able to add a little “pixie dust” to your vacation! Learn More About Sarah
