My family of five are planning our first trip to WDW in September. Should we wait until l any specials come up for September? if they do-- or should we just book now to ensure a spot. What if I pay for the dining package then it ends up being free dining?

    Hi Mike!

One never knows what discounts Disney might offer in the future.  They really use the discounts to increase the number of guests staying in a Disney owned and operated hotel.  However, to get a good feel for what discounts have been offered in the past and when they were announced, you can visit the website MouseSavers.com.  Mouse Savers has a lot of information on saving money on a Disney vacation.  They also have a historical database of discounts and when they were released.  If you use Google with the search string "Mouse Savers historical discount database" it should take you right there.

If you have a reservation and a discount comes out, you can call Disney and ask that the discount be applied to your reservation.  It will not happen automatically.  If you have already paid for your package in full, then you can get a discount.  Note, however, that changes within 45 days of your arrival for a package reservation (meaning room and tickets) will incur a fee.  Also keep in mind that Disney will only let you use one discount on a reservation; so you can't stack up various discounts, such as a room discount and Free Dining.

By the way, since you said this is your first visit, I highly recommend picking up the book "The Complete Walt Disney World" by Julie and Mike Neel.  It is a great book for first time visitors, as it is full of information without being overwhelming.  It is also a beautiful book full of color photographs.  It will give you a good feel for everything there is to do at Walt Disney World.

I hope this helps!  Write back if you have any more questions!
