My family and extended family are going to Disneyworld in October (yay). We are staying off Disneyworld property this visit. If we buy Magicbands, are we able to link a credit card to the Magicband as we do when staying in Disneyworld property?

Hey Stephanie, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thanks for taking a few minutes to chat with us today. Let's get you ready for that big family trip!

If there's anything better than visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, it's visiting with all of your favorite people! I have a once-a-year reunion with some great friends at Walt Disney World, and I always look so forward to it. I'm glad you're getting a chance to experience the magic with your extended family.

When you stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, your MagicBands are your Theme Park admission, FastPass+ entry, door keys, PhotoPass photo collector, and payment option for shopping and dining. And while they seem to do everything, the MagicBands themselves don't actually store any of your personal information. When a Guest taps their MagicBand to pay for something, that item is charged to the room, not directly to the credit card. The room receipt you receive at the end of your stay will then show the items you bought and charge your credit card for the total in your folio. Therefore, a Guest staying offsite naturally doesn't have a room that the charges can be applied to.

But that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy many of the benefits of a MagicBand, Stephanie! Since you're buying them, you have so many fun MagicBand options to choose from as opposed to the solid color bands that are included with a room reservation. And once you link it to your My Disney Experience account, you can still use it for Park admission and FastPass+ entry, as well as access your Disney PhotoPass photos. I say go for it!

I hope this helps you plan a magical vacation with your family, Stephanie. If you have any more questions, please stop by and see us again!

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
