I want to take my family to Disney World in October of 2020. There will be five adults and two children under 12 years old. It will be the two children’s first visit. Please advise where to start!

Hi Susie! Let's start by saying that you are a great family member for beginning the planning process for your family! I am excited for the first visit by the two children in your group! An important planning tip is to involve all members of your group in the planning process. The Walt Disney World Resort has something for everyone, so ask those family members, "What do you want to do while we are at the Most Magical Place on Earth?" Some members of your group may have a certain attraction in mind, a must-meet character, or a special restaurant to enjoy. You'll want to try to schedule a little something for everyone. The Walt Disney World Resort offers some excellent free videos for planning your vacation.

Another recommendation that I always make is to be sure to schedule some (afternoon) relaxation time at your resort. Days in the theme parks can get long (and hot). Your group, especially the younger ones, will probably benefit by some time cooling off at the resort pool. Be sure to let the kids enjoy an ice-cream Mickey Bar by the pool! They are a favorite of my youngest son.

You will also want to consider the Memory Maker. This photography service will help to capture every magical moment of your vacation. You will then be able to view every photograph and download all of your favorites. The Disney photographers work their magic by capturing your family in all the right places! You will have a wonderful vacation keepsake!

And since your planning a visit in October, you need to consider a visit to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. This special ticket event will occur on select nights usually from mid-August through Halloween. This is my favorite event at the Walt Disney World Resort. Children (and adults) are welcome to dress in Halloween costumes and trick or treat through the Magic Kingdom Park. You will enjoy Halloween-themed fireworks and parades. This event is usually from 7:00PM to 12:00AM, but you can enter the park as early as 4:00PM which I absolutely recommend doing!

Susie, you have a lot of fun planning to do, but you've given yourself plenty of time! Be sure to visit us back here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel as you continue your planning!
