My family is going to Disney 11/29-12/7/09 what can you see at the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party that we would not be able to see on another day we are there? Our kids are going to be 2 & 4 and don't want to over do it with them. Please help!

    Laura:

I've been to MVMCP three times, and each visit I see something new, but I don't always recommend it to friends, especially if: 1) your small children can't stay up late to enjoy the extra special fireworks show and rides until midnight, 2) your family doesn't enjoy Disney stage entertainment (which isn't offered at other times during regular park hours) or 3) see snow more than twice a year!

    Here are my pros:
    • The fireworks show is, by far, the best one of the year.  I'm not much of a cry-baby, but seeing the fireworks explode in ALL directions of the park last Christmas, not just over Cinderella Castle, was amazing.
    • The parade has a special float that literally pipes out the smell of cinnamon rolls!  It's longer and more livelier in my opinion than the regular spectromagic parade and includes more Disney characters, too.
    • My kids light up at the snow on Main Street, but we live in Mississippi, where snow is only seen every few years!  For a New Yorker like yourself, this may not be a reason to spend the extra money.
    Here are my cons:
    • Don't go for the "all-you-can-eat" cookies and hot chocolate.  The cookies are store-bought and there are lines, making you less likely to want to brave seconds.
    • Don't go thinking there will be low crowds.  Many of the parties sell out, telling me the park is at its capacity.  Most of the rides by this time are stand-by, which is not appealing to me.
    • The additional cost, especially if I've bought a package and will be in the parks for multiple days, can be off-putting.
Lastly, if you know you might visit when the children are a little bit older, I'd consider doing it when the younger one can remember the experience.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
