My family of 4 (2 daughters ages 11 and 8) can't decide whether we should stay at Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter. What are the advantages/disadvantages of either? Preferences?

    Hi Kerry,

You can't go wrong with either of the Port Orlean resorts, and the good news is that, whichever one you choose, you can take advantage of the amenities at the other as well.

Port Orleans French Quarter is the smaller of the two, so everything is more compact -- including the distance to the food court, the bus stop, the pool and the water taxi to Disney Springs. The sea serpent slide at the pool is fun and you can't miss the hot beignets at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. I will tell you that I've always thought of the theme there as a bit more adult. It's the resort my husband and I often choose when we are visiting without our daughters.

Port Orleans Riverside is larger and has a broader variety of rooms, from the more rustic theme in Alligator Bayou (where there's a small fold-down bed in many rooms in case your daughters, like mine, hate to sleep together) to the elegant Royal Rooms (decked out as a guest room for Tiana's visiting princess friends, including fireworks in the headboards).

Riverside has more pools, including Ol' Man Island; a full service restaurant, Boatwright's Dining Hall; and a few more recreation options. Because it is larger, you may find the bus stops and the amenities a little farther away, depending on your room location. I have a soft spot for Riverside since it was my family's first Walt Disney World resort 20+ years ago and we've returned often. We find it pretty and peaceful.

I'm out of space, but I hope that helps you with your decision, Kerry. Please check back if you need more information. Enjoy!
