Ahoy, Elizabeth!
Thanks for cruising in to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
I'm so excited to hear you'll be enjoying my favorite itinerary on any Disney Cruise Line vacation - a Castaway Cay Double Dip!
Disney's beautiful private island is amazing, and getting to visit twice during one sailing is so much fun. I always find myself wishing we had more time when we visit Castaway Cay, and on your cruise, you'll have plenty of time to enjoy all that the island has to offer.
Disney Cruise Line hosts a fun event for active guests when you visit the island - the runDisney Castaway Cay 5k. Both walkers and runners are welcome to participate in this 3.1 mile jaunt around the island, visiting some picturesque spots and two water stops. On a Double Dip cruise, it will only be held only on one of the two days that you visit - typically on the first stop. When we first started sailing with Disney, this event wasn't very well-known, and I remember only a handful of guests heading off the ship to participate. On our cruise over Thanksgiving, there had to be at least 500 or more guests lined up to run!
It's free to participate in this event, you'll simply need to stop by Guest Services once onboard to sign up. Make sure to register at least one day prior to your stop in Castaway Cay. The minimum age to participate in the Castaway Cay 5K is 10 years old, so your littlest cruiser will have to wait until a future cruise to earn their medal. Childcare is available at Scuttle's Cove during the run - simply check with the Youth Counselors on the ship if you'd like to take advantage of this service.
Thanks again for stopping by - have a run-derful day! - Diane W.
