Our family is considering planning a trip to Disney in October 2015. We expect to have 6 adults and an 18 month old. I am looking at the Value Resort Hotels (All-Star). We are considering either getting 2 standard rooms (connected) or a family suite?

    Tracy:

I'm a big fan of the family suite, but not for a traveling group of adults. Here's why:

    • Standard Rooms at the All-Stars now come equipped with a refrigerator. In the past, having a refrigerator for the needs of young children was a must, so the suites made sense. Yes, you don't have a microwave in a standard room, but it's the fridge that I've found I've always needed and now that they come standard, the bump in cost for a suite with a microwave may not be worth it.
    • Every adult gets a bed. In the Family Suite, you only have one queen bed. The other sleeping accommodations are a double sofa bed and an ottoman chair that converts into two deluxe, cot-like beds. If you're a family of teenagers, the suite would be more appealing. But I find most adults like their sleep. And you'll need it at Disney.
    • Privacy. The open floor-plan of the common area of the suite doesn't lend itself easily to privacy. With both the two connecting rooms and the suite, you must pull the curtain in front of the sink area or go into the bathroom if modesty is a concern. The suite seems to acerbate the issue of privacy, in my opinion.

Your only downside in choosing two standard rooms is that the suite does allow for your group to visit in  easier than sitting on beds and or at the two chairs at the desk. However, if I was the one who drew the short stick and had to sleep on the "cot," I'd be happy to meet everyone down by the pool to visit!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
