My family and I are coming to visit Disney for the first time in May! Everyone tells me to make dinner reservations and plan our days in advance....is this really necessary? I want this to be a relaxing vacation not rushing to get to dinner and stressed!

    Hi Rhonda
Your first visit should be magical and stress free!
I agree with you AND your friends on this one.  I'm a real believer in at least 'loosely' planning out the vacation in advance.  Restaurants, character dining and special events do fill up - often long in advance (most reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance, and some sell out quickly).

So to avoid disappointment, I like to plan ahead on those special things our family really wants to do (like character dining, fireworks, parades, etc). Then I loosely fill in other events around these highlights.  Check out the online calendar for details on what is happening in each of the theme parks.

For me, by planning the highlights, I find I have a more relaxing vacation. I also try to get the entire family involved in the planning - and that builds excitement!  You may want to try getting others involved in the planning -  it may take some of the stress of of you and you will have lots of family fun in while planning your vacation!  Hope these tips help you have a magical - and stress free - holiday!

Walt Disney World stole my heart when my parents introduced me to the magic the year it opened. I fondly remember my first 'Mickey Mouse in a Glass House' balloon! I still visit with my parents-and now with my husband and our two teens. Learn More About Lynn
