My family will be coming over Thanksgiving week and we have a 23 month old. Any suggestions for character dining and any tips about which parks would be better for him? Any tips would be great for such a young visitor!

    Michelle:

As a mom, I feel I need to be very honest with you about your dining expectations for Thanksgiving.  You will probably find very few reservations at this point for Character Dining, and walk-up dining during such a busy week may not be a possibility.

Your best bet for walk-up dining, will probably be the Character dining at the resorts, not the parks, so dining with Cinderella and Prince Charming at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian or Mickey and the gang at Beach Club, may be better bets.  And breakfast dining will offer more opportunity than other meals.  If I were in your shoes, I'd put Disney's dining number (407-939-3463) in your cell phone and call whenever you think about it, seeing what might be available.  Cancellations can come at any time and last spring I was able to get into Chef Mickey's with 48 hours notice due to a cancellation.

As for the parks, I recommend the obvious choice of Magic Kingdom along with Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom if you do the animal trails (our family's favorite is the gorilla trail after the safari).  Epcot is large and has a lot of area to cover.  There are gems there for the younger set like Nemo and Figment, but if you had to omit one, I'd let it go if your trip is solely child-focused.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
