Hi Jody,
Happy birthday in advance!
We've celebrated many birthdays at the Walt Disney World resorts, and you have lots of choices for making the day really special. Make sure you pick up a free Happy Birthday button at your resort or at Guest Relations in the parks. It's tons of fun to have cast members and other guests recognize your special day.
For the dinner you described, I would recommend
Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian, which is a quick monorail ride away from the entrance to Magic Kingdom. We've had some birthday dinners there and always have a great meal. My husband still talks about a fish dish that was the special of the day on his birthday a couple of years ago.
Narcoossee's has windows facing Magic Kingdom and a patio on Bay Lake where you an watch the fireworks over Cinderella Castle.
California Grill at the Contemporary would normally be a top choice, but it is closed for renovation right now.
My other idea is to dine at one of the restaurants at the Polynesian,
'Ohana or
Kona Cafe, and then watch the fireworks from the beach behind the hotel. Again, there's a lovely view. 'Ohana and Kona are both really good, too, but a little more casual than Narcoossee's. Some tables at 'Ohana have a view of Magic Kingdom, but those can't be guaranteed.
I hope that helps. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. Your trip is right around the corner. Enjoy!
Wilma
