We are a family of 6, 4 children, ages 11,9,7,4 and want to take a disney vacation. We are thinking maybe cruise and land or even one or the other, but know nothing. The amount of info is overwhelming. When is the best time of year for less crowds?

    Hi Marie,

I completely agree that delving into the world of Disney vacation planning can be intimidating for a first-timer, but you're headed in the right direction by visiting the Moms Panel!

Personally, any time can of year can be the ideal time for a Disney Cruise.  What is unique to a cruise vacation is the finite number of guests that can travel on any one voyage.  The ships are designed to comfortably accommodate this maximum amount of guests, so whether you cruise at peak season, or off season you can never be "over crowded".  That being said, I prefer to cruise in September, January or early February simply because it is off-season and the rates tend to be less expensive.

As for the parks, the holiday season, spring break (February-April) and summer months are typically the busiest and I will avoid the parks at these time.  I am not a huge fan of crowds, and will trade hot weather for lower crowds.  For these reasons, my favorite time to visit the parks is in late January.  The cool weather and lower crowds make it an ideal time to explore the parks.  You may have noticed that January is one of my favorite months to cruise as well - so this would be my perfect month for a land and sea vacation.

Having never cruised before, I would recommend starting with a 4 or 5-night voyage and then maybe head to the Walt Disney World Resort for at least 4 days to round out the Disney experience.

    I hope this helps!
