My Family will be checking in at DPOR on Jan 10th. We have dinner res. at Liberty Tree Tavern at 6:45. Will we need to allow extra time to get from resort to dinner because of the marathon? Does the marathon run through MK that day? Thanks

    Hi Carolann,

The Disney Marathon is an exciting event that does traverse through the parks; however, I don't think it will affect any of your family's touring plans.

The race begins around 6:00 a.m. near Epcot.  Runners are expected to go no slower than 16 minutes/mile, and most go much faster.  At this pace, everyone will have cleared out of the Magic Kingdom (miles 10 & 11) well before the regular park opening.

Running a marathon takes a lot out of you, so I doubt that many runners will be heading to the parks that afternoon.  Plus, there is a private party at Hollywood Studios in the evening for the marathon participants and their guests, so if anything, Magic Kingdom should be LESS crowded than usual on that day.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
