Hi, My family will be going to be camping in a motorhome at Ft.Wilderness Oct.31-Nov.1, 2009. We have 5 children ages 1-10. Why do you love FW so much and what can I expect?

    Christine:

    Where do I begin?

    • Cleanliness: Disney's attention to detail doesn't stop at its hotels. The campsites are well-kept, sprayed and raked after each use.  Even though we have a full bath in our RV, one bathroom for our large family is not enough!  To be honest, the showers at the fort are probably cleaner than at home, plus they're well lit and ample in space.
    • Spaciousness: I doubt you'll find another campground with consistently large spaces as the fort, giving you lots of room to spread out, grill, and enjoy the peacefulness so close to the parks.
    • Activities: Our family's spent several vacations at the fort and not stepped in the parks.  From the stables and blacksmith behind Pioneer Hall to its beach and pier, from the pool with a children's water play area to the bike trails, there's much to explore. Add in Chip 'n' Dale's campfire singalong and nightly Disney outdoor movies (did I mention it's free) and the numerous daily activities at the pool like dodgeball and bingo and you've got full dance card!
When our family visited over Halloween last year, there were many special activities just for campers: a golf cart parade, a costumed pet parade, campsite decorating, crafts and games with prizes at the pool, a pumpkin carving contest and trick-or-treating!  (We took 200 glow-in-the-dark bracelets to give out along with a basket of suckers.)  We had such a blast we invited two other families to join us there this year!

As you know, camping in itself brings a family together.  Add that to the fun of  Disney World and you have a winning combination.  Simply put, Fort Wilderness is one of the biggest values in a vacation destination, in my opinion.

Wishing y'all a magical vacation--maybe we'll see each other.  I'll be dressed as Snow White!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
