Hello Sharon,
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us another question.
‘Ohana is one of my family’s favourite dining experiences at Walt Disney World Resort… and that includes my husband, who has a severe shellfish allergy! We’ve never had a problem dining at ‘Ohana, provided you make sure to tell the Cast Member at the podium when you check in that your son has a shrimp allergy, as well as your server.
Because the meal is served family style, what we usually do in order to avoid cross-contamination is make sure that my husband serves himself first whenever new bowls of yummy goodness get put onto the table. Because, let’s face it, it’s next to impossible not to have several helpings at ‘Ohana, we ask our server to bring him a clean set of serving utensils for him to use to avoid any cross-contamination and to make sure he doesn’t touch the handles of the utensils that are on the table. Finally, when a stray shrimp shell once made its way into what was left of the noodles/veggies, we asked for a new bowl to be brought to my husband. A few moments later, more broccoli and noodles than he could possibly eat appeared in front of him!
I hope these tips will help you during your upcoming visit. If you have any other allergy-related concerns, please visit the
Special Dietary Requests page for more information. And please don’t hesitate to come back and visit us if you have any other questions!
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
