My family and I (2 adults, 6, 4, 3 and 16mo) will be sailing from San Juan in January 2020. We are looking for advice as to where to stay before with a large family and after! We won't have car seats. Anyone done this with a large family?

    Hi there, Michelle!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  I am so excited to hEAR you have a Disney Cruise Line vacation planned for next year!  Whether or not this will be your first time at sea with Captain Mickey, you will be in for a treat!  My family sailed a similar itinerary a couple years ago and it was the most perfect escape from the cold winter (although I know my winter in Texas is nothing compared to your winters in Minnesota!)!!  My boys always find it funny to show up to the airport in warm-weather clothing when it’s the complete opposite outside!

While we were fortunate enough to be able travel in and out of the San Juan on the same day of embarkation and debarkation, we did consider adding a night on at the front end of our vacation.  But had we done so, we would have chosen to stay at the Disney Cruise Line recommended hotel, the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino.  I would recommend staying there because Disney Cruise Line ground transfers offer transportation between this hotel and the Port of San Juan.  Additionally, the motor coaches used for Disney Cruise Line ground transfers do not typically require the use of car seats.  You would just keep your littlest ones on your lap for the short duration of the drive from one location to another.  If the recommended hotel does not work for your family’s needs, then I would recommend looking into an Airbnb type rental and then secure ground transfers with a local company.  Often car companies will have car seats for use, so be sure to ask!  You definitely won’t want to bring car seats with you if you can at all avoid it because they would need to be stored inside your stateroom, likely taking up more space than you would like!

Your WONDERful adventure is going to be just that – magical and WONDERFUL!  You are going to make some of the best memories with your Mouseketeers and I am so excited for you all!  Be sure to register your older children for the onboard Youth Clubs and take advantage of the onboard nursery for your littlest!  They will have the best time giving you a chance to enjoy yourselves as well.  I always enjoy the Quiet Cove Pool when I am kid-less onboard!

As you continue planning, please come back with any other questions you may have!

    Happy Sailing!
