Hi Faith, your story is truly inspiring! My husband & I just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and want to run our first 1/2 Marathon at WDW, Nov '16. We are not late night people and are concerned how to prepare for a 10pm event? Eating/sleep?

Welcome to the wonderful world of runDisney, Debbie!

I'm excited to hear you want to commemorate 25 years of marriage to your Prince Charming by participating in the 2016 Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. I can't think of a better way to celebrate! I also struggle with night races -  the 10:00pm start time is my bedtime! HA! I have figured out over the years a few ways to make the experience more enjoyable so I cross the finish line with a smile and not a yawn.

    • On Thursday and Friday night prior to the race, plan on staying up later and sleeping in a bit. My favorite way to do this is arrive at Walt Disney World® Resort Thursday evening, the excitement will help keep you up. Friday night, enjoy a pasta dinner at Portobello Country Italian Trattoria and then take in the last showing of Cirque du Soleil - La Nouba (usually at 9:00pm) in the reimagined Disney Springs. Not only will you be mesmerized, but it will keep you up late and off your feet.

    • For meal planning, eat a hearty breakfast! You will want this to be your main meal of the day. I suggest 'Ohana or Kona Cafe at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Mickey waffles are great race fuel! For lunch, keep it on the smaller side with a sandwich or even a Mickey Pretzel.

    • If you decide to visit a theme park Saturday, I advise heading back to your resort hotel by afternoon to rest. For dinner, have a bagel with some peanut butter in your room and take a banana with you to the start zone to have an hour before race time.

Here are some additional tips on the runDisney Blog for preparing for a night race. Just select the highlighted link to read all about it!

And thank you so much for the kind compliment :)
