Hi, Patty!
Congratulations on your decision to participate in the 2014 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend -- this is my favorite runDisney race event. I hope to see you out there!
You pose an excellent question, but unfortunately, the New Balance Track & Field Complex is not open for the public use of guests staying at Walt Disney World® Resort. Though I think it's an excellent idea that I've passed along to the proper channels.
However, there are still a multitude of
recreational running opportunities around property as New Balance and Walt Disney World® Resort have partnered to provide several running trails for your enjoyment. My favorite trail is the Epcot Resort Area loop coupled with the trail along Crescent Lake Canal to Hollywood Studios. Additionally, by adding the outer loop along Epcot Resort Blvd. you can really increase your mileage.
Another great suggestion to consider for a shorter, more shaded run, is the route connecting Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Here, you can become one with nature as you journey along this dirt path filled with the woodland creatures of Disney -- It's not uncommon to see a herd of deer as you run. Hello, Bambi!
Regardless of which trail(s) you choose to utilize during your upcoming vacation, every mile will still be magic! Any day you get to run around Disney Parks is a good day.
I hope this information has been helpful, Patty! Please do not hesitate to ask any additional questions you may have. I am here to help make your race, or training experience, as magical as possible.
Happy Training-cation
Faith
