Are face masks required for disabled children? My son is 8yrs but mentally/developmentally around the age of 6months. He also has a facial disfigurement that makes it impossible for him to wear a mask. Does that mean he won’t be allowed indoors?

    Hiya Aimee,

Welcome to planDisney! Thank you for bringing your question to us today. I know that you and your little Mouseketeer will have the most magical time at Walt Disney World Resort. Be sure to get a good spot along the parade route for the newly returned Festival of Fantasy Parade. My secret place to watch the parade is to the right of Cinderella’s Castle near Liberty Square. There is a little bridge, and there are little benches where you can sit and watch the parade.

As the daughter of a special education teacher, I can 100% understand your predicament. Wearing a mask for the duration of your Theme Park day can be challenging for Guests of all ages and abilities (I sometimes have a little trouble myself). Recently, Walt Disney World Resort has changed its face-covering requirements for Guests visiting the Most Magical Place on Earth.

-Face coverings are now optional for Guests outdoors regardless of vaccination status (you are not required to show proof of vaccination at this time) or age.

-Indoors, masks are optional if you are fully vaccinated but are expected for unvaccinated guests.

-The only place where face coverings are required by all Guests regardless of vaccination status is on select enclosed Walt Disney World Transportation such as buses and the monorails.

So your son will definitely be able to go indoors without wearing a face covering. I hope this news eases a little bit of your travel stress and allows you to have an even more magical vacation.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help you prepare for your trip; I would love to be of further assistance.

    Happy Planning,

    Ashley F.
