What extra things can I do to make my daughter's birthday trip this coming weekend more special? We are doing Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios for two days. We are staying at Pop Century Resort. Please help!? She's turning 10!

    Brandi, welcome to planDisney!

Celebrating your double-digit birthday is HUGE! You won't change the number of digits in your age again until you reach 100. I took each of my sons to Walt Disney World Resort to celebrate their big 1-0, too!

Since we visit Walt Disney World Resort often as a family, to make their birthday trips extra special we let the birthday boys make most of the decisions while we were there. Ice cream for dinner? You bet! We all shared a Kitchen Sink Sundae at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. If my birthday prince wanted to spend the afternoon at the pool, no problem! They each got a kick out of being in charge for the day. I think this was so special to them because at ten-years-old, you are going from "little kid" to "big kid," so having this critical task of making decisions meant a lot to them.

Brandi, I am SO EXCITED you are staying at Disney's Pop Century Resort for this special visit. Many Guests staying here like to decorate their hotel windows for special occasions such as yours. Bring something fun to adorn your windows and decorate the ledge. I wouldn't use tape, as it can be hard to remove when ready to go home. I have used window clings with excellent results on our Pop Century windows that I picked up at our local dollar store - they were even Disney birthday themed! I have also used suction cup hooks to hang streamers and banners. You can use garland to decorate the window ledge as well as small plush animals. She is going to LOVE it! I sent my boys ahead one morning with my husband to get breakfast, then quickly worked my magic and then joined up with them. When we got back to the room, the decorations were a total surprise! It was so much fun.

Be sure to stop at the hotel front desk and ask for a complimentary birthday Celebration Button! As she wears it around the Theme Parks Cast Members and other Guests will wish her a happy birthday. It is a little thing, but it sure made my boys grin from ear to ear! You can also purchase adorable Minnie Ears for a little extra birthday pizzazz, such as this Minnie Mouse Sequined Ear Headband

Please wish your princess a Happy Birthday from me!

Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a “boy mom” to two rowdy little men at home and married to my high school sweetheart. I am fortunate enough that my prince charming loves all things Disney just as much as I do! For me, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be just as magical as being there. It brings our family together as we dream, plan, and count down the days. I would be honored to help plan your visit and share in your family’s very own magic! Learn More About Rachel
