How do you explain to a 3 yr old who hears Mickey, Donald, Handy Manny etc. from tv that they cannot talk to him in 'real life'?

    Hi Grampa Brian!

Great question!  One I'm sure my 3 year old will ask at some point.  I guess I better figure out what I'm going to tell him when the time comes.  While I haven't had to personally tell any children why the characters don't speak, lots of other guests at Walt Disney World have.  Moms Panel Anna has a great answer for you from overhearing other parents using creative ways to explain this.  Click HERE to read her answer.

I also did an internet search on what other parents have told their children and my favorite one that I read is actually what a 3 year old told her dad.  She said the characters are too tired to talk because they are smiling all day for pictures with the kids that came to Disney to see them.  Too cute!

Sending you pixie dust so your grandchildren continue to believe in the magic!
