I have an expired ticket that was $259. I understand that I can use my expired ticket for the purchase of a new ticket that is of equal/greater value. However, the ticket that I want is $249. Am I able to forfeit the $10 difference to buy the 249 ticket?

    Welcome Back, Ryan!!

It's so good to see you back hEAR asking another Disneyland Resort planning question!

I have had this same situation happen before, and actually, I was with my fellow panelist and dear friend Veronica. This one is tricky. The sales system won't actually allow this type of transaction, ie: "downgrading" to a lesser-value ticket and getting a difference back. However, you can add on other options to the new theme park admission ticket you're eyeing so that it is the same value or slightly above what you originally paid for your initial ticket. If the price of the new ticket is higher than the old ticket, you'll pay the difference and be on your way for a magical Disney Day!

When this happened to me and Veronica, we added on the then-offered MaxPass, which has now been replaced by the new Disney Genie+ Service, but you might also be able to add a 1-day purchase of Disney's PhotoPass. You'll have to call a Disneyland Ticketing Cast Member to help assist with this swap, so ask if they know of any other add-ons that can be applied to your new ticket to help meet or slightly exceed your original ticket. Their phone number is (714) 781-4636.

Pro Tip: Don't forget that you'll need to make this switch or upgrade sooner rather than later so you can secure your Park Pass Reservations; hEARs the Park Pass Reservation Calendar should you need it!)

I hope that this helped to better plan your upcoming Disney Days, Ryan! Be sure to follow the official planDisney Instagram account for even more tips and tricks. And if you have any more Disneyland Resort vacation planning questions, We're All Ears!
