Hello - Very excited to be visiting Disney again !! We will be at FW Cabins for 3 nights Will do a water park and MK - We also want to spent a day exploring FW - Suggestions??? My daughter would like to meet Merida and Rapunzel - August 1 Many Thanks

Hi Julie! I love answering the Fort Wilderness questions as I consider it my Disney home away from home. Although we have a motor coach we bring down for our "resort room" my family loves to stay in the cabins. You will enjoy the peace and quiet of this resort and its uniqueness with lots of wide open spaces for kids to run and play and explore.

It is easy to get to the Magic Kingdom as you can hop on a boat that begins running 30 minutes before park opening. If you would like to arrive a bit earlier to see the opening show then hop on the Contemporary boat that begins at 6:45 and then transfer to the monorail or walk to the park from there.

To reach the water parks simply wait for the bus at the central bus area in the front of the resort next to the check-in building. There is an internal bus system in place if you do not want to make the long walks to both the bus area or the marina.

There is lots to do at Fort Wilderness. Depending on your daughter's age she can either enjoy a pony ride at the stables near the marina or take a trail ride near the bus area at the front of the resort. You can rent canoes and kayaks at the Bike Barn for a leisurely paddle in the canals, fish in the canals, rent boats at the marina, or take a swim in one of the two pools. The main pool is near the Bike Barn.  They also offer archery on certain days of the week so check that out since she is a big fan of Merida. You can rent bikes and take the path to Wilderness Lodge or just hike around on the many sidewalks through the loops.

For character meet and greets pick up a times Guide at the park when you enter or check in with the Guest Relations cast members for the latest times and locations. Things can change daily! Enjoy your great vacation at Fort Wilderness!
