We're excited about our upcoming vacation to Disney World in August! We'll be traveling with our 2 year old and wanted to know if Rise of the Resistance has a childswap option. How would we make a reservation using Lightning Lane? Thank you!

    Hello Alyssa,

Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question. It's so much fun to travel to Walt Disney World with a little one. You'll see the magic through their eyes, and the memories you make will be priceless!

Of course, you'll want a chance to jump into the fun as well. That's where Rider Switch comes in handy. Many attractions throughout Walt Disney World offer Rider Switch so that you can still enjoy attractions that your little one isn't quite ready for. You'll be happy to know that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance does offer the Rider Switch option.

It sounds like you are planning on purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane for this attraction. If you don't already have the My Disney Experience App on your mobile device, you'll want to add that. If you are a guest at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, you'll be able to purchase Individual Lightning Lanes beginning at 7:00 AM. Otherwise, you can purchase them when Disney's Hollywood Studios officially opens for the day.

To make your purchase on the morning of your visit, look at the Tip Board for Disney's Hollywood Studios in your My Disney Experience App. Scroll down to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and select LL Individual Lightning Lane, click on that and follow the prompts to make your purchase. You'll just want to purchase it for every person in your party who is going to ride the attraction.

When it's time to ride the attraction, everyone in the party, including your 2 year old should go to the Lightning Lane entrance and let the cast member know that you would like to do Rider Switch. You, or a couple of people in your party, can hang out with your child while everyone else rides the attraction. Once they're done, you'll be able to enter the Lightning Lane and experience the adventure for yourself!

If you decide not to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane, the process will be the same. When you are ready to hop in line, let the cast member at the standby line know that you would like to do Rider Switch.  Once the first group in your party has finished the ride, the person or people who stayed with your child will be able to hop into the Lightning Lane when you make the switch.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation, and may the Force be with you!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
