Hi! We are excited for our first family cruise on the Disney Magic in June. Will there be a pirate or formal night on the 27 June-6 July sailing? Thank you!

Ahoy there, Jennifer! Welcome to planDisney!

Your first family cruise on the Disney Magic? Excuse me while I freak out like Mei and her friends at a 4☆Town concert at how excited you and your family must be to experience everything that makes a Disney Cruise Line vacation the BEST family vacation around! My first Disney Cruise Line vacation was on the Disney Magic, too! But that was...a long time ago...How long? Let's just say, I had a great time as a teenager in Common Grounds.

Now that I've sufficiently dated myself, let's move on to your question!

I've got good news! On your 9-Night Mediterranean with Greek Isles Cruise from Civitavecchia, you're likely to have both a Pirate Night and a formal night! Itineraries seven nights and longer typically have several themed nights, allowing you and your crew to take advantage of professional photographers around the ship! The breakdown usually looks something like this:

    • Your first night is cruise casual, which is a great way to settle into your dining rotation and meet your dining room family!
    • One pirate night or other themed deck party - in the Mediterranean, we usually still see Pirate Night, but did you know in Northern Europe they've previously had Frozen-themed deck parties?!
    • One formal and one semi-formal night

The remaining nights are usually cruse casual - but everyone is always welcome to participate in themed nights or not! I'm usually cruise casual all the time, but I do enjoy seeing the families who dress up! With our next cruise being a Halloween on the High Seas cruise, though, you can bet we'll be in costume!

Whether you decide to participate - or decide to leave the extra room in your suitcase for souvenirs - be sure you have the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app downloaded so you can check the activities schedule for which nights are which - entertainment is always subject to change, so having the app on your side is always a great way to stay informed!

I hope that helps you chart your course for an incredible adventure! Thank you so much for sailing my way with your question, Jennifer! If you find that you have additional questions as your embarkation date approaches, you can always drop me a line here at planDisney!

    Fair winds and following seas!
