I am excited about the Disney Marathon in a few weeks. Could you tell me what to expect with the photo opportunities along the race path. I don't want to stand in line (I am trying to finish in 5 hours). Are the character pictures quick? Worth it?

Hi Jennifer!    I think the 20th anniversary marathon is going to be amazing!  The new course and awesome medal have me really excited!

The character photos along the course are a lot of fun.  Sometimes I go into a race knowing that I am just going to have a good time, stop for photos, and not worry about my "race time".  Other times, I have a goal (like you) and while I still have a great time, I don't stop for photos if there are lines.  The lines can be fairly long depending on which characters they are and how far back you are in the runners.  Obviously, the first runners out of the "A" corral won't have to wait in lines for the photo opportunities.

When I am running races with a time goal, I usually stop in front of the bigger landmarks (Cinderella Castle, Tree of Life, etc.) and have someone snap a quick picture of me there.  Spectators and fellow runners are generally more than happy to grab my phone or camera to take the shot.  When in line for character photos, the runners behind you will take your photo, just as you will take the photo of the person in front of you.  It just always happens that way!  Runners (especially runDisney runners) are a friendly bunch!

Whether or not the pictures are worth it is really up to you.  If you have your heart set on your 5-hour goal and will be disappointed otherwise, then you probably don't want to stand in long character lines.  Be sure to take some photos though.  I love looking back through my race photos and re-living the race from the comfort of my warm sofa!

I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you have any other questions and good luck!!
