Hi Julie,
I am excited to answer another question for you! I am so glad that you have come to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with so many of your questions as you plan the ultimate Walt Disney World vacation for your family. I recently stayed at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed viewing the different animals from our balcony. That alone is worth staying at this wonderful resort hotel. I also highly recommend an evening at the resort dining at Boma - Flavors of Africa and then heading to the Jambo House Campfire for marshmallow roasting and storytelling. Be sure to check with guest services for the most up to date info on time and location of the campfire.
In Magic Kingdom, there is so much to see and do, but some of my favorite hidden gems, perfect for your son's age are Country Bear Jamboree, Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, and the Casey Jr. Splash and Soak (especially in the August heat) and
Tom Sawyer Island. These attractions happened to be my boys' favorites at one time and are sometimes overlooked. The Festival of Fantasy parade is an absolute must-see. Take a break in the middle of the day to sit and enjoy a Mickey Bar while viewing this phenomenal parade. Lastly, if he is really into pirates, you might consider a pirate makeover at The Pirates League in Adventureland.
While in Disney's Animal Kingdom, you must do the
Wilderness Explorers. This interactive activity offers a fun way for the little ones to learn lots of fun facts while seeing the theme park in a different way. My daughter was 5 when she first did this and it was her favorite part of the entire trip. Also, be sure to stop by the Affection Section petting area when visiting Chip and Dale at Rafiki's Planet Watch.
Have a magical trip!
