We’re so excited to board our next Disney cruise in a few weeks! Is it true that paper Navigators can no longer be requested at the front desk? I love being phone free for a week and am hoping I don’t have to carry my phone with me.

    Hi Marisa!

It’s so wonderful to see a long-time supporter of planDisney ask another great question! Thank you for trusting our advice and for coming back for more guidance. I’m thrilled for your family to be anticipating another amazing Disney Cruise Line vacation and am happy to help you know what to expect onboard.

The Disney Cruise Line Personal Navigator is your guide to all the incredible activities, character greetings, meals, movies, and entertainment onboard throughout your cruise. These used to be delivered daily to your stateroom in a hard copy but now the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App has the entire detailed schedule plus additional functionality to enhance your cruise experience! I completely understand wanting to be phone-free for the week though, let’s look at your options.

My panel pal Prince is currently onboard the gorgeous Disney Wish and inquired about paper Personal Navigators across all ships in the fleet for us. You may ask for one at Guest Services, but they do not put them out on display. This may be due to the greater functionality available on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App and in support of their sustainability efforts with less paper waste each week.

Our lives are so tech-reliant that unplugging for a week onboard your Disney cruise ship feels so good! I have tried to find this balance by not purchasing the Connect @ Sea Internet Packages, and only keeping to the onboard Wi-Fi for app support. I also limit my app use to key features such as chatting with my family when we’re on different parts of the ship, receiving notifications of favorite activities about to begin, and browsing the menu for our main dining room each night in advance of our dinner seating. I’ve also found the Guest Services or Dining Team chat feature extremely useful in resolving an issue or finalizing plans once onboard.

If you want to leave your phone secured in your stateroom, you could certainly ask for a paper Personal Navigator each day at Guest Services. You can also look ahead in the app and write down key activities with their place and time and rely on overhead announcements from your Cruise Director throughout the day. I hope these tips and options help you find the right balance to unplug, decompress, and relax while experiencing all the activities that make a Disney Cruise Line vacation so memorable!

Please let us know how else we can help you make the most of this incredible vacation.

Wishing you a practically perfect sailing,
    Amy
