What exactly qualifies a disabled person for the DAS program?

Welcome back to planDisney, Ruth! Thank you for reaching out with your question. How exciting that you’re preparing for your upcoming Walt Disney World adventure! Navigating accessibility options is an important part of planning a magical visit, and I’d be happy to help you understand how the Disability Access Service (DAS) program works and what qualifies a guest to use it so you can ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone in your party.

The Disability Access Service, or DAS, at Walt Disney World is designed for guests who, because of a disability, cannot tolerate waiting in a traditional queue for an extended period of time. It doesn’t allow you to skip lines or board rides immediately; instead, it gives you a return time comparable to the standby wait so you can wait elsewhere, in a less stressful or crowded environment. To register, the guest who needs DAS must have valid park admission and be present for the registration process.

Eligibility for DAS is based on need, not on a specific diagnosis. Disney’s current policy states that the program is intended for guests who, due to a developmental disability such as autism or a similar condition, are unable to wait in a conventional queue. The focus of the service tends to be on developmental or cognitive conditions rather than a wide range of physical or medical issues.

To receive DAS, you’ll complete a live video chat with a Disney Cast Member before your visit. During that conversation, they will ask about why waiting in a conventional line is not possible. You do not need to provide a doctor’s note or medical records, but the guest who will use DAS must be present, and Disney will take a photo to link to the pass.

Ruth, I hope this explanation helps you feel confident and prepared as you plan your visit to Walt Disney World Resort. With the right resources and the Disability Access Service in place, you can focus on what truly matters, enjoying magical moments together and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much for visiting planDisney with your question. Wishing you a vacation filled with joy, ease, and all the pixie dust Disney has to offer!
