Hi Everyone, We are planning our trip for September to October 2014, an 8 day Disney cruise, then 9 days in Disney World. We would like to know about the Dining plans for Disney World. Are they easy & value for money & how do they work, please. Th

Hi Tony! It certainly sounds like a magical dream Disney vacation combining the cruise with a lengthy parks stay! I am sure you are very excited for September to arrive.

The Dining Plans are a great way to pay ahead for your vacation just as you do for the cruise. You know what the costs will be and can take that stress off while you are hopping from park to park.

Disney offers five plans: Quick Service, Standard, Deluxe, Premium, and Platinum. The most popular are the Quick Service due to its cost and the Standard. Since you will be at Walt Disney World for a lengthy time I suggest nothing less then the Standard. This will give you at least one table service meal each day as well as one quick service meal and a snack. The next step is the Deluxe plan and unless you are huge breakfast eaters this plan can be too much as it offers three table service meals daily. The Premium and Platinum add even more perks beyond dining such as recreation and tours so it depends on your plans while you are visiting.

All dining locations understand the Dining Plans and can walk you through it the first few times until you become more comfortable. They will always ask if you are on a plan and will take care of it for you. Basically you dine on credits and each time you have a meal a credit is taken until they are gone. Please understand that some dining will take two credits so it is possible to "run out" before the end of the trip.  You can read about each of the plans at the Disney website, www.disneyworld.com. Everyone has different interests and needs and thus they offer the many different dining plans.

My family does not use them as we don't want to keep track of credits and some days eat like horses and other days eat very little. It isn't for everyone but for those that like a package vacation it is perfect and very popular!
