My enchant magic keys expire on Jan 6, I renewed them tonight (Jan 5), will I be able to upgrade to the explore pass on Jan 13 through the app?

Greetings, Amy, and welcome to planDisney! Congratulations on renewing your Magic Key pass. There are a lot of exciting events and experiences coming to the Disneyland Resort this year – you'll have a lot to look forward to!

I'm excited about the Explore Key – being able to visit during the summers is an amazing added perk. I can see why you are interested in upgrading your Enchant Key. As you know, the new Explore Key pass will launch on January 13, 2026. According to the website, there will be an online queue for new pass sales that will open no earlier than 8:45 a.m. Keep that timing in mind when checking to see if an upgrade option is available.

At the time of writing this, the process and exact timing are a little unclear for upgrading an active Imagine Key or Enchant Key to an Explore Key, since this is a new pass type, and the online upgrade option is a newer feature. The good news, Amy, is that your Magic Key pass has been renewed and is currently active. Upgrading to the Explore Key is just the last step.

Here's how to check if you can upgrade your Magic Key pass online: Navigate to your pass in the Disneyland mobile app – you should see an "Upgrade Magic Key" button under it. Tapping that would bring you to the "Upgrade Magic Key Passes" page, where all the Magic Key passes you manage will show up. You can alternatively find this page on the Disneyland website by hovering over "Magic Key" in the top navigation and clicking on "Upgrade Magic Key Passes."

If your pass can be upgraded online, you will see the option to do so on this page, along with the available Magic Key pass types that you can upgrade to. The Explore Key will likely not appear here until it becomes available for purchase. Keep checking starting the morning of January 13, 2026. If your pass doesn't have the option to upgrade online, you may need to visit a ticket booth at the Disneyland Resort. Going in person is a reliable way to upgrade a Magic Key pass if you will be at the parks soon.

Check out the Park Reservation Availability Calendar to plan out some of your trips after you move to the Explore Key. You'll see the biggest difference in blockout dates between your current pass and the new pass in June and July. Remember that you can make theme park reservations up to 90 days in advance.

Amy, I hope the process of upgrading your Magic Key goes smoothly for you. If you think of any other questions, please reach out to us anytime – we're always happy to help here at planDisney!
