Hi Margaret!
Walt Disney World is the most popular tourist destination in the world and it is certainly the most magical in many eyes. It is likely on almost every person’s bucket list to visit at least once!
Disney follows the guidelines of the ADA regarding service animals. This has been a topic for discussion for the last few years. The ADA states “The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to a person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.” However, many local and state regulations have now included emotional needs dogs to be allowed in public places.
Disney respects their guests and their honesty to what their needs are and for what reasons. Recently they have opened up four
Resorts where guests can now bring their pets from home to enjoy a stay at Walt Disney World. Depending on which resort, there is an extra cost per night. They have designated walking areas and pets are not permitted in the common areas or dining locations.
Anyone with any type of service animal must also consider the time of year for a park visit. The Florida weather can be very hot and humid. Picking a cooler and dryer time of year is in the best interest for both human and animal.
I recommend you review your needs and the ADA guidelines for them with your physician. He or she will be the best person to determine if you fall within those guidelines which Disney will follow. There are many gray areas making this not a black or white answer.
