What an electrifying question, Stefanie! Welcome to planDisney, where we provide guests with the inspirational spark they need to plan a perfect Disney vacation. I think you're asking about electric vehicle charging at Disney Resort hotels, but meet me back here and ask a new question if you meant something else. As an EV owner, I'm always scoping out places to add a few electrons, and I've topped up my battery at various locations at Walt Disney World. Let's charge ahead with an answer to your inquiry!
There are quite a few locations around Walt Disney World where you can
get some juice for your EV. At the time of this response, the following hotels offer charging stations:
You can also find chargers in the parking lots of all four theme parks, including five spaces at Magic Kingdom, and four each at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. The cost per kilowatt hour (kWh) at these chargers is $0.35, and the minimum service amount is $1.50. You will need a credit card or prepaid ChargePoint card to use these chargers, and I prefer to use the app with my payment method linked to my account. I've added the app's digital card to my mobile wallet and summon it at the charging station whenever I need a little jolt of energy. This unlocks the plug so you can remove it from its holster and place it in the vehicle's charging port. The plug on these chargers is J1772, so you will need an adapter if your charging port is the North American Charging Standard (NACS).
I also want to mention that there are three chargers in each of the Orange, Grapefruit, and Lime garages in Disney Springs, but these are provided by a different charging network vendor. There are instructions provided on the equipment, but I opted to download the provider's app and add funds to my account balance before charging. These are also J1772 plugs.
There are four additional ChargePoint chargers in the Watermelon Lot, and these are DC fast chargers that offer CCS1 and CHAdeMO plugs. CCS1 is the fast charging connector for vehicles with J1772 ports, and cars with NACS ports will need an adapter. CHAdeMO is used almost exclusively by the Nissan Leaf here in the US. Using these chargers will significantly reduce your charging time, and it's best to plug in and stay with your vehicle at a fast charger. These will cost $0.40 per kWh, and provide a 20 minute grace period once the car is charged. After the grace period, you will be charged $0.30 per minute until your car is moved. Remember, it's good EV etiquette to move your car once it has finished charging.
That should cover everything you need to know about charging your EV at Disney World, Stefanie! I am wishing you a high-voltage vacation to The Most Magical Place on Earth.
The power is (literally) in your hands!
