Will be going with an elderly couple who have never been to Disney before and one will need a wheelchair. Is it better to bring our own from home or rent one? Also, how do you get a room closer to the pool or restaurants so there is less walking involved

    Hi Lori,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. It sounds like you have a special treat planned for some lucky people!

One thing I love about Walt Disney World Resort is that it is accessible for all people. Although I don't have any experience using a wheelchair at the resort, I have been traveling with a double stroller since my first family trip. What I have learned is that traveling outside the parks can be just as tiring as traveling inside the parks. Getting to the bus or monorail transportation or to your room once you're back at the resort can feel like a 100-mile journey after a day at the parks! So for me, renting a stroller was not an option because I needed to have it for the rest of the traveling that we do at Walt Disney World Resort. If you feel like you will only need the wheelchair while you are in the parks, then I would suggest renting one. Another thing to think about is whether the person will be more comfortable in their own wheelchair. If that's the case, then definitely bring yours from home.

As far as the room location is concerned, I would add that request to your reservation in advance of your arrival. The Cast Members will do their best to accommodate you upon check-in if needed.

I hope you all have a magical vacation to Walt Disney World. There's nothing like a first visit, no matter what the age!
