We want to eat at Akershus at 8pm and still catch illuminations that evening. Is this cutting it too close? Also where are some last minute spots to catch illuminations from as we wont be able to stake out a place 90 minutes before as everyone suggests.

    Hi Kelly,

I'm about to let you in on a little secret : my family has a spot for watching IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth for which we've always been able to walk up and get a great spot about 15 minutes prior to the start of the show. Where is this magical spot, you ask? Why it's along World Showcase Lagoon near Germany, especially to the right (when facing the Lagoon) of the FriendShip Launch dock.  It's also dangerously close to Karamell-Küche, the store that sells amazing caramel-filled confections, including their addictive caramel popcorn!

Remember, this is our little secret! If "our" spot becomes popular, I would recommend checking 20-30 minutes prior to IllumiNations just to make sure that there will still be space for you and your family to watch the show.

As for your dining reservation at 8:00 pm at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, that might be cutting it a little bit close to be able to make it over to Germany in time for Illuminations. That being said, I disagree with the people who say that you need to be staking out a spot 90 minutes prior to the show's start. That may be true if you want to try to get a seat on one of the benches around World Showcase Lagoon, but short of visiting during an EXTREMELY busy day at Epcot, I really don't think that's necessary. What I would recommend: plan to watch IllumiNations one night from Germany and then plan to see it with a slightly less close-up view from Norway after your meal. If you only have one night at Epcot, I would recommend trying to move up your reservation time in order to give yourself plenty of time after dinner to wander towards Germany.

    Have a Magical Day,
    Lynne
