Hello there, Bernie! Welcome to planDisney. I'm so glad you've stopped by with your question.
Bernie, we are in the same boat here. I was not able to secure a dining reservation at the all-new and exciting
Space 220 Restaurant either. But, I do have some great news for us because the Space 220 Lounge is a walk-up first-come, first-serve dining area in the restaurant. I actually really enjoy the bar and lounge areas in restaurants at Walt Disney World. A lot of the more expensive and more popular places have them and I find myself dining in them quite a bit. I don't know if you knew this or not but all of the bars and lounges at Walt Disney World are kid-friendly. Kids are more than welcome to sit and enjoy these areas as long as you are comfortable with it because, well, it is a bar. My daughter, who is 14 now, has grown up enjoying several of the bar and lounge areas at Walt Disney World and even has favorites of her own. The bartenders and servers are always more than happy to come up with a mocktail or snack that excites her if nothing is standing out for her on the menu. I will say though that in the last few years the mocktail menu has really stepped up its game at these lounge and bar areas. The Space 220 Restaurant lounge is actually located in the same area as the rest of the restaurant so you are still going to be able to enjoy all of those stellar views from outer space. You'll be able to order from a
flight bite menu with some lounge-only exclusives or you can even enjoy the whole
prix fixe lunch or dinner menu while you are there. The lounge also features soft drinks, beer, wine and atmospheric spirits also known as cocktails!
So, Bernie, we have hope of getting to enjoy the Space 220 Restaurant via the lounge on our next trips to Walt Disney World. I did also want to mention that you should keep trying for a reservation because spots do open up. When people cancel their dining reservations that does get updated in real-time and spots do open up. You just have to be diligent about checking back.
I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, I'd love for you to come back and
ask me. I'm here to help. Have fun and enjoy!
