How early can you join virtual queues at the WDW Theme Parks and how do you know which rides require a queue? What is the difference between lighting lane and Disney Genie? Is there a list of rides from each park to know which rides are LL or Genie or VQ?

Hi there, Melissa, and welcome to planDisney!

Planning a vacation to The Most Magical Place on Earth, at first, seems a bit overwhelming. But trust me, once you understand what convenient options you have available to you, once you arrive, it’ll be a breeze. Let’s jump right into it all!

Some attractions use a free Virtual Queue system, which essentially means that you don’t have to wait for an extended amount of time to ride an attraction. Link your theme park ticket to your MyDisney Account, make a theme park reservation (if you have an undated ticket), and log in to the My Disney Experience App on the day of your visit. Be ready to go because at 7 a.m. EST, you will be able to join a boarding group for a Virtual Queue attraction. If you miss out on that opportunity, you can also join a boarding group at 1 p.m. (once you’ve already tapped into the theme park). At this moment, the following attractions have Virtual Queues at Walt Disney World Resort: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom Park. By the time of your visit, this could change, so be sure to double-check the Virtual Queues webpage beforehand.

Now, there is also a cool system called the Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass. With these, you can completely skip the standard queue of specific attractions throughout your day. For example, with the Multi Pass, you can choose up to 3 experience selections before your visit and you will know your exact return window to redeem your ride time. As you redeem selections, you can immediately book your next one. With the Single Pass, you get access to a top-tier attraction during a specific time. Some people purchase both the Multi Pass and Single Pass. Others only want to use the Lightning Lane for one attraction like TRON Lightcycle / Run, so they’ll get a Single Pass for that. If you have more questions about the Lightning Lane system (the new version of the old Disney Genie+ system), watch videos on this webpage. You can also find the list of tiered attractions on that webpage as well.

AN EXTRA GEM: By the way, you can purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass and/or Single Pass as early as 7 days before your visit (and up to 14 days of your trip) if you’re staying at an eligible hotel. If you’re not staying on property, you can purchase them up to 3 days before (and one day at a time).

Melissa, I’m running out of space to fully break down the ins and outs, but please if you have any additional questions about your upcoming visit, please reach out to me personally here at planDisney. I hope that you have the trip of a lifetime—and get out there and save the galaxy!

    Magic always,
