I am dying to cruise but want DS to be old enough to really enjoy it. Will be 3 in June. Am thinking of wating til he is 5 even tho it might kill me! Is there a 'best' age? I know there will be things for every age but want him to be able to do it all!

    Hi, Karen!

My answer for the "best age" for a Disney cruise is the answer I give for the same question asked about a visit to Walt Disney World -- ANY age is the best age!

Yet, I understand your question, and it really may have less to do with his age and more to do with his height. Because of safety concerns, there are certain restrictions on height for things such as the AquaDuck on the Disney Dream or Pelican Plunge on Castaway Cay.

There also are pros and cons associated with bringing younger and older children...I should know. I have four children who have cruised at various ages with varying degrees of excitement (or disappointment) at what was available (or restricted) because of their ages. Of course, the younger they are, the less expensive their cruise fare is -- yet, children ages 3-10 are the ones allowed in the amazing Oceaneer's Club and Oceaneer's Lab. Children 12 weeks to 3 years are welcome in the nursery but with prior reservations and an additional fee.

My older children love the tween and teen areas but have voiced more than a little jealousy at their younger siblings' access to their areas. Then again, my little ones are envious that my teens are allowed to come and go as they please with much independence. Since Disney caters the cruise experience for every age, it definitely makes every angle look good no matter how old or young you are!

Therefore, I encourage you to go ahead and take the plunge! Besides, once you're on board, you're an official member of the Castaway Club, and you can book your next cruise at a discount before you ever leave the ship! Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
